Spencer Dream CenterThe Need

(the Spencer Dream Center falls under DaySpring Assembly of God’s non-profit 501(c)(3) status. All gifts are tax deductible)

Today in Clay County, an unprecedented number of families are living below the poverty line where the average family income for the poor has declined steadily since 1967.

These individuals are in desperate need of housing, food, and clothing. Community resources are stretched to the breaking point, and most shelters have extended waiting lists.

The children are the most negatively affected. Nationally, 50% of all children live in single-parent homes for at least part of their childhood. These children are five times more likely to live below the poverty line than children who live with both parents.

Many of these children living in poverty will experience lives of gangs, drugs and crime. Cities and towns will continue to see an increase in crime, drugs and poverty. Problems that a decade ago only affected the “inner city” will increasingly affect all Americans, even here in Spencer.

KES Properties, LLC of Spencer is donating the Hotel at 605 North Grand Avenue to DaySpring Assembly of God. The church needs to raise $80,000 right away to complete the transaction, and even more money for the roof which is in need of repair.

The Mission

The Dream Center will be a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that provides social services and outreach programs designed to meet physical, spiritual, and long-term needs.

One of the first programs we will implement is a Youth Center, possibly in the basement. This would be a safe, clean place for young people in the area to “hang out”. Staffed by volunteers and paid staff, the Youth Center would feature pool tables, foosball, arcade games, TVs and a snack bar. The young people in Spencer desperately need a place like this!

Part of the beautiful dining facilities on the main floor would be utilized as a “coffee house” serving gourmet coffee, with live music and comfortable overstuffed furniture. It would be a great place for the community to gather…not at all a “church” kind of place….just a nice warm inviting and comfortable environment.

We will also provide food, clothing, shelter, life rehabilitation, education and job training, and much more through our ministries and outreaches. We will reach hundreds, if not thousands of hurting and needy children, families and adults across all races and cultures each week.

The Dream Center will strive to help solve moral decay, crime, drugs, gangs, homelessness and poverty epidemics that exist in our nation. The vision of the Dream Center is to see hurting people come to know a new life through the efforts of our staff, volunteers, and recently rehabilitated individuals whose lives have been dramatically changed.

The Dream Center is founded by Pastor Kevin Grimes and DaySpring Assembly of God, but will be an entirely separate non-profit corporation. We will join together with other churches, non-profit organizations, corporations, foundations and individuals of many faiths from around the world with the common purpose of meeting the spiritual and socioeconomic needs of this city and surrounding areas.

The Dream Center would have an open door policy, eventually operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.

In addition to food, clothing, job training and healthcare, we would provide educational programs, parenting classes and after-school activities. We would also provide residential recovery programs for men, women and teens. All of these programs would be available free of charge to anyone in need.

Anyone interested in helping with this new exciting outreach can contact Pastor Kevin Grimes at DaySpring Assembly of God at 712-262-6292 or on his cell phone at 909-856-4239.
